In unRAID/Main view, at the bottom of the screen it has a parity check and parity check history button. I copy and pasted the history info into Numbers.app and used it to create this graph. Super simple.

    Dec 13, 2016 · Parity Bit Rules: (even parity) 1. If there is an odd number of 1’s, then the parity bit (8th bit) is 1 to make it even. 2. If there is an even number of 1’s, then the parity bit (8th bit) is 0 to make/keep it even. 5. (Even) Parity Bit 1.1011010 = 10110100 2.1110111 = 11101110 3.1001001 = 10010011 4.0010000 = 00100001 5.1010101 = 10101010 ...

Unraid OS Pro supports up to 30 storage devices in the parity-protected array (28 data and 2 parity) and up to 24 storage devices in the cache pool. Additional storage devices can still be utilized directly with other Unraid features such as Virtual Machines or the unassigned devices plugin.

Well it is more a security check, to check if all data is according to what Unraid thinks it should have on the array. If for some reason the parity disc was not available to write the calculated checksum, the parity would not be in sync anymore. So it is actually more of best practice to make sure they are in sync. Also note similar issue in this thread for the T440s (for which latest BIOS is 2.46). Seems that several of Lenovo's latest BIOS releases do not work with KB4056892. ...

Append one check bit to data bits so that all codewords have the same overall parity—either even or odd. Even-parity codewords are defined by a single parity-check equation: c 1 ⊕c 2 ⊕··· ⊕c n = (c 1 +c 2 +··· +c n)mod2 = 0, where ⊕ denotes the exclusive-or operation. If we XOR c n to both sides of the above equation, we obtain ...

Check bit 8 governs positions 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 = 0 (1 0 1 0) Thus, the complete codeword is 1000 0000 1010. A 1-bit error in this codeword can be corrected as follows: First, calculate the parity bits. If all are correct, there is either no error, or errors in more than 1 bit. However, we are limiting ourselves to single-bit errors here. If the parity bits show an error, add up all the erroneous parity
  • Unraid parity check 1 error

Since the parity checker used here is an odd one, so the error will be decided on whether the number of 1’s is odd or not. If the number of 1’s at the receiving end counts to be even in number then an error has occurred. But if the number 1’s is odd then the transmission is taken as error-free.
